Ski components and services

The drawing needs graphics support in your browser. The list of parts below works without it.
Base and glide
Base
The underside that slides. It dries out and goes grey with use — that is when it needs cleaning and wax.
Services for this component
Prices are per pair of skis. Required parts and additional work are agreed after inspection.
Edges and grip
Edges
The metal rails that hold on hard snow. The angle decides how sharply they bite — blunter forgives more, sharper holds on ice.
Services for this component
Prices are per pair of skis. Required parts and additional work are agreed after inspection.
Structure
Sidewall
The material between the topsheet and the edge. Damage here is water finding its way inside.

Topsheet
The top surface. Mostly cosmetic, but a crack running to the edge means water in the core.

Bindings
Ski brake
The two arms that drop when a ski releases, so it stops instead of running off down the hill.
Ski binding toe piece
Holds the front of the ski boot and forms part of the release mechanism. A technician checks the correct setting.

Ski binding heel piece
Holds the boot heel. Its position and forward pressure must suit the boot and binding model.

Binding mounting area
The area where the binding attaches to the ski. Mounting or remounting is planned for the ski, binding and boot.
