What makes up the bicycle

  • Frame

The structure connecting the bicycle’s assemblies. It stays in place during the challenge.

  • Front wheel

The tyre, rim, spokes, hub and rotor move as one assembly. The axle connects it to the fork.

  • Rear wheel

The rear wheel transfers drive to the ground. Look inside the hub to see how the pawls engage when pedalling and let the wheel coast when the pedals stop.

  • Fork

It carries the front wheel and turns inside the frame for steering. Its suspension absorbs bumps.

  • Handlebars

Handlebars, stem, grips and controls come together here. This is where you steer, brake and change gear.

  • Saddle and post

The saddle rests on the post that enters the frame. Together they determine your seated position.

  • Drivetrain

Pedals, cranks, chain, cassette and derailleur transfer power to the rear wheel. They are shown together here for a closer look.
